Advanced Dental Technology Columbia, MD

Where Comfort & Precision are Prioritized

At Dental Designs of Maryland in Columbia, MD, we want our patients to have the most comfortable experience possible that yields the longest lasting, greatest results, and one of the ways we’re able to do this is by employing cutting-edge technology. From our CEREC in-house milling machine to our soft tissue laser, dentistry has never been as precise as it is here. We invite you to learn a little more about some of the instruments we use by reading below.

Digital Impressions with CEREC

CEREC stands for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics,” and it’s a short acronym for a group of software and technologies used to create one-visit dental restorations, like a crown. First, our team will create a putty-free and precise digital impression of your mouth. We’ll then design your restoration using CAD/CAM software, and that design will be made real by our in-house milling machine. The process is quick and convenient, more comfortable, and much more precise.

Soft Tissue Laser

Soft tissue lasers allow our team to completely eliminate the need for a scalpel and sutures in some procedures, allowing us to offer a minimally invasive, more comfortable, and incredibly precise alternative. By emitting a concentrated beam of light, our soft tissue laser is able to kill harmful oral bacteria on-contact and even vaporize severely damaged gum tissue, all while cauterizing the area. This leads to less post-operative discomfort, reduced risk of infections, and even faster healing times than traditional treatment methods.

Intraoral Camera

Intraoral cameras are incredibly helpful when it comes to diagnosing dental concerns in areas of the mouth that are hard to see with the naked eye. They’re sleek, wand-shaped devices with cameras on the ends of them that allow our team to take still images and show you live video footage of your mouth, helping us explain our diagnoses and describe how treatments will work.

CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns

We believe in using state-of-the-art technology to make the patient care experience even better, and that includes the Sirona CEREC scanner and milling unit. It works like this:

  • The machine will create a highly detailed, three-dimensional scan of the dental structure.
  • We will use this info to help design your brand-new, custom crown.
  • The new, permanent crown is milled right in the room.
  • Our team will install your new crown and make sure it fits securely.

The use of CEREC means that patients don’t have to worry about impressions made from molding putty or the placement of temporary crowns. Instead, you can walk in with a damaged tooth and walk out with a brand-new, high-quality restoration!
