When you think of a dental emergency, you might imagine someone with a severe toothache, broken tooth, or lost restoration. While these are among the more prevalent situations people find themselves in, there are a few who have more shocking things happen to their mouths. Here are just three stories from other offices that might make you happy you aren’t them.
Tiny Garden Sprouting
This patient’s experience started like any other. They rushed to their dentist with dental pain, and after an examination, a root canal was recommended. To give them relief, the procedure began right away.
As the team started to clear out the usual plaque, they noticed something peeking through the gumline. When they got a closer look, a little sprout was growing out of the gums. After further examination, a tomato seed got lodged into the soft tissue and started to make itself known.
Picking Up Nature’s Call
A woman had a crown that fell out, so she called her provider about it. This was the right thing to do, so she got scheduled to have it placed back on soon. Thankfully, the restoration was in good condition, so it got reattached, and she was all set to go!
However, what she told the team afterward left their jaws hanging. Turns out this actually happened several days prior. She put it on the counter, but it fell to the floor, and her dog swooped by and swallowed it! Before she made her appointment, she had to wait for nature’s call to get it back.
Tissue Pileup
One time, a man went to his dentist. He wasn’t feeling well at all, so his provider wanted to help him out as soon as possible. They started an examination to get to the bottom of the issue, but it made itself known very quickly.
The team was met with one of the worst mouth infections in medical history. The patient ended up saying how he had a hole in his palate and was stuffing it with tissues. He would change it every week, but wet paper and bacteria aren’t a good mixture.
